excess baggage

Something brilliant from my momma:
"I am remembering a book about a hiker on the App. Trail
who started to jettison all sorts of weight as he went
along. His friend later asked for various items (food)
and found they were cast aside too far back to retrieve
them. Do you find this useful? Yes No [check one]"

this made me laugh out loud.
this also made me think of all the extra shit we carry just in case.
made me think about how few times I wish I had kept something I'd let go compared to how many times I curse the weight of my bag, the useless stuff I brought along,

Ha! Your mom is awesome. It's from one of my favorite light reading books called:

A Walk in the Woods
by Bill Bryson

I dig Bryson. He's laugh out loud funny. I generally go the pack mule route with electronic/ photography items, but not with clothes/shoes/makeup. I was once in Europe for 3 weeks with one small rolling carry on bag. 1/3 of that suitcase was my camera gear.

Cute!!! I love Bryson as well.

That is so thought provoking Kate. The other day I had this revelation, of how much of my life I've spent worrying about things that never happened. I wish I could get those hours back. I wish I could have jettisoned those emotions.

Hope you're doing well.

Hmmm...Very good thought to ponder...A writing exercise I do involves writing out a list of obsessions - all the things I'm obsessed about in that moment in time. Today I wrote one and then looked back at an old one from about a year ago - it was amazing to see that my entire list of obsessions from one year ago were gone - taken care of, checked off my list, let go of - and I was onto a list of new ones. I may be jettisoning things, but I'm clearly picking up other things, and, like you say, cursing their weight! I hope that one year from now, IF is removed from both our lists of obsessions. XOXO
